Celebrating 2025: A Year of Growing

Celebrating 2025: A Year of Growing

  • Katherine Jernigan

As 2025 comes to a close, the Transfarmation team is reflecting on a year defined by extraordinary momentum. We strengthened our role in the farm transitions movement and deepened our capacity to help farmers build thriving, plant-focused businesses.

Join us as we look back at the highlights we are most proud of:

Celebrating 1 Year at the NC Hub!

We are thrilled to report that in North Carolina, our first demonstration hub has completed its first full year of vegetable production. This site, converted from a former chicken barn, is now a living classroom and research space. We’ve welcomed visitors into the space and look forward to welcoming even more of you in 2026.

Meanwhile in Iowa, construction on our second hub is well underway at the Faaborg Farm. The team recently celebrated a delicious milestone: the first mushroom harvest from the new fruiting room. Stay tuned for a formal launch in 2026!

Shaping the Conversation

Transfarmation is reaching wider audiences than ever. In the past year alone, we secured 60 media features, including some wonderful podcasts like Canary in a Cornfield and Mothering Earth!

Following the release of our founder’s book, Transfarmation: The Movement to Free Us from Factory Farming, we continued our book tour, which included events at our demonstration hub ribbon cutting, a launch party in New York City, and the Animal and Vegan Advocacy Summit. These stories are helping to shift the narrative surrounding our food system and showcase how factory farming harms animals, people, and the planet.

Connecting with our Community

We love getting on the ground and showing up in our community. Our team was busy this year, reaching over 39,000 people through tabling and speaking at high-impact events. We were proud to connect with attendees at Farm Aid, the Reducetarian Summit, and the Duke Animal Law Symposium.

Our online community also grew this year. In 2025, we nearly doubled our followers across platforms. We shared new stories about our farmers, connected with numerous allies, and shared news stories that resonated with people from all over the country. This growth is clear evidence that what we’re doing to shake up Big Ag’s narrative is working.

Expanding our Resources

To ensure farmers have the practical guidance they need, our team published new tailored resources for our online toolkit throughout the year. We also awarded a grant to support another Iowa farmer transitioning from pig farming to greenhouse vegetable and herb production. This project will create an example for others looking to do the same!

Looking Forward to 2026

Our mission is not only to support farmers exiting factory farming but also to shift societal narratives and culture surrounding industrial agriculture. Here is what we are looking forward to in 2026:

  • Launching the Incubator: Currently in the design phase, the Transfarmation incubator program will accelerate farm transitions through tailored mentorship, crop-production support, hands-on training, and peer learning.
  • A New Cohort: We plan to launch our new farm-transitions course and welcome a pilot group of brand new farmers.
  • Iowa Hub Opening: We will formally launch our second demonstration hub in Story City, Iowa. This operating mushroom farm in a converted pig barn will open its doors for educational tours and events while providing critical data for transitioning farmers.
  • Midwest Research Coalition: We are thrilled to begin building a coalition of researchers and partnerships with universities in the Midwest to ensure our efforts are rooted in rigorous science.

It’s been a truly amazing year for our program. We are endlessly grateful for our community and all the support we had this year. Most importantly, we’re thankful for the courage of the farmers who dream big and act bravely. We can’t wait to see what we do together in 2026!
