The Transfarmation Project is an initiative of Mercy For Animals Inc. and adheres to Mercy For Animals’ guidelines on data collection and use, as applicable to the services Transfarmation offers. This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains what information we collect from or about volunteers, donors (as defined below), and visitors and users (collectively, “you,” “your,” “User,” or “Users”) of our websites, including but not limited to www.thetransfarmationproject.org and all other The Transfarmation Project-owned or The Transfarmation Project-managed websites or mobile applications; our online store; our social media platforms; messaging services used to communicate with us; multichannel advocacy tools; and our online and offline donor platforms (collectively, the “The Transfarmation Project Services”). This Policy also explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information, as well as the rights you have with respect to your information. For purposes of applicable privacy laws, Mercy For Animals Inc. is the data controller of your information.

You may opt out of email communications using the “manage subscriptions” link in our emails. You may opt out of SMS/text messages by replying “STOP.” You may also opt out by emailing [email protected]. Service-related communications may still be sent as required.

Mobile terms and conditions

  1. There is no fee from Transfarmation to receive text messages. Message and data rates may apply- this can be checked with your mobile service provider. Charges are billed and payable to your mobile service provider or deducted from your prepaid account. Consent is not a requirement for purchase.
  2. Data obtained from you in connection with this SMS service may include your mobile phone number, your carrier’s name and the date, time and content of your messages. We may use this information to contact you and provide the services you request from us. Alerts sent via SMS may not be delivered if the mobile phone is not in range of a transmission site, or if sufficient network capacity is not available at a particular time. Even within a coverage area, factors beyond the control of the wireless operator may interfere with message delivery, including the customer’s equipment, terrain, proximity to buildings, foliage, and weather. Wireless operators do not guarantee message delivery and will not be held liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
  3. We will not be liable for any delays in the receipt of any SMS message as delivery is subject to effective transmission from your network operator.
  4. By subscribing to Transfarmation mobile alerts, the user consents to receive automated news, action alerts and donation requests via text messages. Recurring messages. Standard Message & data may apply.

Notice of Right to Opt Out of Sales of Personal Information and Processing/Sharing of Personal Information for Targeted Advertising Purposes

As explained in the “Cookies,” “Online Analytics,” and “Online Advertising” sections below, we provide certain information to third-party advertising providers for targeted advertising purposes, so that we can provide you with more relevant and tailored ads regarding our services, or use related advertising analytics services. The disclosure of your information to these third parties to assist us in providing these services may be considered a “sale” of personal information under applicable law, or, the processing/sharing of personal information for targeted advertising purposes.

As mentioned above, we and our vendors use cookies and similar technologies to collect certain information about you. The setting will apply only to the browser or device you are using, so you will need to reset the setting on a different browser or device. We and our vendors may use third-party analytics services on The Transfarmation Project Services to help us understand how users engage with The Transfarmation Project Services, including Google Analytics. How is my information protected?

The Transfarmation Project maintains lawful data security measures in line with current industry standards for The Transfarmation Project's Services to protect the information under its control against unauthorized access and disclosure. These measures include the implementation of a variety of technical, physical, and administrative data-security safeguards to protect the information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption protocols and access control policies and mechanisms. Please keep in mind, however, that no data transmitted over the internet is 100 percent secure, and any information disclosed online can potentially be collected and used by parties other than the intended recipient.

How is my information retained?

We retain information for different periods of time depending on the purposes for which we collect and use it, as described in this Policy. We will delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed to fulfill these purposes unless a longer retention period is required to comply with applicable laws. There may be relevant legal, technical, financial, regulatory retention requirements or other operational reasons where we are unable to fully delete or de-identify your information. Where this is the case, we will take lawful measures to prevent further processing your information.

Children’s privacy

The Transfarmation Project does not knowingly solicit or collect personal information (as defined in applicable law) from minors under the age permitted by applicable law without parental consent. The Transfarmation Project is based in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that we may store and process your information in the United States or any other country in which The Transfarmation Project or its affiliates or vendors maintain facilities. If you are located in the European Union or other regions with laws governing data collection and use that may differ from United States law, please note that we may transfer your information to a country and jurisdiction that does not have the same data protection laws as your jurisdiction. By using The Transfarmation Project Services, you consent to the transfer of your information to such jurisdictions. If you do not want your information to be transferred in this way, do not use The Transfarmation Project Services.
