Transfarmation to Attend Farm Aid 2024

Transfarmation to Attend Farm Aid 2024

  • Heather Decker

Established in 1985 by Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp, Farm Aid has been dedicated to helping and protecting farmers for over 30 years. Much more than a music festival, it provides an important opportunity for movement building and connection, all while promoting food from family farms.

The Transfarmation Project® will attend this year’s festival for the fourth consecutive year. We are excited to table in the Homegrown Village, an area dedicated to exhibits and demonstrations. It’s a place where farm activists and festivalgoers come together to meet and share stories.

Why is Farm Aid so important?

Transfarmation is all about bringing together unlikely allies for a joint cause. Farm Aid provides a common ground for farmers, activists, and consumers from all walks of life to connect about our food system. For many of our farmers, it’s an opportunity to meet others who have gone through similar circumstances. For our team, it’s a learning and networking experience.

“I went to my first Farm Aid during my second week on the job at Transfarmation. Coming from an animal-centric background, I had an opportunity to immerse myself in farmer advocacy and learn about the many hurdles we face in reaching our goal of food-system reform. The festival connected me with like-minded organizations and individuals I wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance to know. Farm Aid gave me invaluable insight and perspective and made me a passionate farmer advocate.”

A typical Farm Aid experience includes tours of small, local farms; a farmer forum where farmers and activists can speak about policy and important issues; and the music festival itself. The overarching focus is on supporting small farms and reforming our broken food system. It is the perfect place to connect with farmers and find important allies in our fight against corporate control.

What to Expect

At Farm Aid this year, our team is honored to showcase how escaping factory farming is not only possible but profitable. We’re excited to connect with farmers who may be looking for alternatives and to connect with others who can help us spread our message. Transfarmation was founded on the concept of unlikely allies working together toward a common goal, and Farm Aid is one of the best places to find them.

Transfarmation relishes the opportunity to be part of this empowering, exciting festival, and we hope to see you there! If you can’t join us in person, make sure you visit our social media pages to follow along on September 19–22.
